Type TC-ER cable is exposed run tray cable, approved for installation where sections are left as open wiring without the protection of a cable tray.
TC-ER must be installed in compliance with NEC standards, but can sometimes run outside of a tray for 50 feet or more. Cables without the “-ER” rating can only be exposed for 6 feet.
Keep in mind that the exposed run rating can also be applied to different types of tray cable, including Type TC, Type PLTC, and Type ITC.
